HISTORY AND HERITAGE WALK
- On 8 September 2018, the Directorate of Culture, Heritage and Memory of the Grand Est Region, represented by Mr Vianney MULLER, organised a history and heritage walk starting and finishing at the Étang de Hanau. It was done in stages, allowing the 120 participants, divided into 3 groups, to discover in turn: - The Étang de Hanau peat bog - Waldeck Castle - The Erbsenfelsen pierced rock - The border stones of 1605/1606 - The bunker at the junction of the old tank track and the Hanau forest road. At each stage, a specialist speaker brought the history of the site to life. The speakers included the History and Archaeology Society of the Pays de Bitche (Mr Joël BECK and his team) and the Northern Vosges Regional Park (Mr Loïc DUCHAMP and his team).
- The municipality of Eguelshardt (Emile EITEL, who also represented the Friends of the Forest of the Pays de Bitche association). This experience was a first and deserves to be repeated. The route walked is in the process of being classified as a trail of excellence.
