THE LAW EXPLAINED

Rainwater: rainwater does not need treating. Only waste water should go to the treatment plant. Directing rainwater into the sewer is prohibited and punishable. If everyone did it, the cost of our sewage service would double. The Community of Municipalities may carry out spot checks to detect any irregularities.

Livestock: the siting of livestock buildings is governed by the département health regulations, which can be consulted at the prefecture. Poultry farms with more than 50 birds over 30 days old may not be located less than 25 metres from buildings occupied by third parties, leisure areas or any establishment open to the public, except for farm campsites (article 153.4 of the standard département regulations). For all other livestock, please contact the prefecture.

Please note: power cut on 2 July 2013 from 9.30am to 11.45am at the following supply point: 055 PC Bannstein.

SYDEM’PASS: COMPULSORY FROM 1 JULY 2013

The Sydem’pass will be compulsory for access to the Pays de Bitche recycling centres.

The card can be collected at the multi-stream sessions held in the villages, on presentation of proof of address for private individuals, or proof of registration (Siret number) for businesses.

Access will be limited to 20 visits a year (calendar year), with a maximum of 1 m³ per visit, in accordance with the regulations setting out what private individuals and businesses may bring.

PROPOSED LANDOWNERS’ GRAZING ASSOCIATION IN THE FALKENSTEINERBACH VALLEY

All the owners concerned have received draft statutes for the AFP, together with the prefectoral order opening the public inquiry and a form to join or refuse to join. Under the law, owners who do not return the completed form to the Philippsbourg Town Hall will be considered to be in favour of the project.

Mr Barba, the inquiry commissioner, will hold a session at the Eguelshardt Town Hall on Wednesday 3 July 2013 from 5pm to 7pm, where residents can submit their comments to the public inquiry.

REGISTERED CHILDMINDERS

Parents looking for childcare who want to know exactly which childminders in the village are actually available should contact the Mother and Child service: Maison du Département, 51 rue du Bac, BP 80001, 57211 Sarreguemines Cedex – ask for Mrs Olivia Wegmuller-Villa, tel. 03 87 35 03 40.

The list of childminders held at the Town Hall has 7 names, but most of these people no longer do this work. We ask the childminders in the village who are still willing to look after one or more children to let the Town Hall know. Thank you.

AFTER-SCHOOL CARE

Parents concerned will find enclosed the rules that still apply for the new school year. The times and prices are unchanged.

Parents who leave their children in lunchtime care (11.30am-12 noon; 12.45pm-1.30pm) without them having lunch are asked to collect them before the children sit down to eat, so as not to disrupt the service.

THE EGUELSHARDT BRIDGE DURING THE WAR

Old postcard “Gruss aus Egelshardt i. Lothr.” showing the old arched bridge

Charles Eyermann was born in Eguelshardt in 1926. His parents lived near the bridge. The old bridge was blown up at the end of 1939 to hamper the German occupiers. Scrap metal and stones littered the road. This rubble was used to fill in the bend opposite the Letzelter farm, and the Germans started work there with the firm Hans Hoffmann of Merzig (Saarland).

Charles Eyermann (Alice Gerling’s brother) told us: “I was taken on as a labourer at the end of 1941; I had just turned 14. Working with a shovel was hard. Later the foreman took a liking to me and put me in charge of looking after and heating the hut, day and night. The first trials on the new bridge – the one we have today – began in the winter of 1942.”
