AVIAN INFLUENZA VIRUS IN THE MOSELLE

The avian influenza virus has been detected in black-headed gulls in the municipalities of Hagondange, Mondelange, Moyeuvre-Grande, Woippy, Metz, Bistroff and Bouzonville. The highly pathogenic virus has been spreading since 27 January 2023 and covers a large part of the Moselle. A temporary control zone covering all the municipalities of the Moselle department has been set up. A number of measures must be taken to prevent the virus from spreading:

  1. Poultry and birds must be kept under shelter, with feed and drinking troughs protected
  2. The introduction of farming equipment and products must follow specific protocols adapted to each farm
  3. Movements of people, domestic mammals, vehicles and equipment to or from poultry or captive bird farms should be avoided as far as possible

We remind you that anyone keeping domestic birds (poultry or ornamental birds) must declare them to the mayor of the place where the birds are kept. Keepers of birds kept permanently inside homes or offices are not required to make this declaration. Form cerfa No 15472*02, Declaration of bird keeping in the context of an avian disease outbreak, is available online or directly at the Town Hall.
