A WORD FROM THE MAYOR – MEDIEVAL DREAMS WITH “LE COMPAGNON DE NOTRE-DAME”
Once again the Baerenthal show, held every two years, was a great success. This time it was “Le Compagnon de Notre-Dame”, a play written by Alphonse Walter and directed by Charly Damm, with Christophe Werner in the lead role. 3,500 spectators saw the play over 8 evenings. 120 actors gave them a moment of escape and wonderful dreams. 18 associations from Baerenthal, Philippsbourg, Mouterhouse and Eguelshardt handled the logistics.
Eguelshardt was strongly represented at every level. Thank you to the many volunteers whose work made this wonderful adventure a success. Thank you to the individuals and associations of Eguelshardt, especially the Inter-Association and its president, Marie-Jeanne Derou; thank you also to the shooting club and its president, Jean-Marie Christmann, and to the parish choir and its leaders Alice Gerling and Jean-Louis Eibel. Everyone pitched in. We thank – without naming them individually – the 47 participants from Eguelshardt: actors, extras, singers, stallholders… and others I am forgetting.
Such an event will go down in the annals of the Bitcherland.

LANDOWNERS’ GRAZING ASSOCIATION – PUBLIC INQUIRY AND GENERAL MEETING
The public inquiry and the consultation of owners of land in Philippsbourg, Eguelshardt and Bitche on the creation of the Landowners’ Grazing Association took place from 10 to 29 June 2013 in these municipalities.
The inquiry commissioner’s report and conclusions are now available to the public with no time limit; they can be consulted at the town halls concerned during opening hours.
A General Meeting of the owners whose property lies within the extended AFPA area will be held in Philippsbourg on 13 September 2013.
If the majority required by the rural code in favour of the owners joining is reached, the Prefect will issue an order authorising the creation of the association and appoint a provisional administrator.
MUNICIPAL COUNCIL IN BRIEF – MEETING OF 9 AUGUST 2013
- Opinion on the SCOT (territorial coherence plan): the SCOT is a plan for our whole district that aims to bring all sector policies into line, particularly for planning, housing, transport and retail. Asked for its opinion, the Eguelshardt council expressed very critical reservations. Among other things, it considers that in its current version this extraordinary multi-layered scheme would hold back the development of the Pays de Bitche to the benefit of the Sarreguemines urban area, would slow down housebuilding and does not solve the public transport problem, etc. (the 4-page decision is available at the Town Hall).
- Sale of the first plot on the Petite-Suisse estate: there has been an enquiry for plot no. 4. The price is €3,000 per are (100 m²). The council authorises the mayor to take all necessary steps and sign the deed of sale, which will state that the plot must be built on within 3 years.
- 2013/2014 felling: the council approves the felling forecast presented by the ONF.
- School canteen: meals will be supplied by the Verrier Gourmand of Goetzenbruck at €4.60 incl. VAT. Families will be charged €5 per meal (less than last year). The price of childcare hours is unchanged from last year.
- Grant to the primary schools’ sports union (USEP): 16 young people from Eguelshardt are members of this association. The council grants it €1.65 per child, i.e. €26.40.
OPEN WINDOW = DANGER
Never leave a child alone near an open window or on a balcony. In France, around 250 children fall from windows every year.
